PROJECT DESCRIPTION
With Lagos growing in leaps and bounds due to rural-to-urban migration and presence of industries, infrastructural facilities were being stressed to their limits. The need arose to construct additional primary mains to supply water to metropolitan Lagos so as to provide some relief to the already-stressed network. This involved supplying and laying 14 km of ductile iron pipe ranging from ND 500 mm to ND 1,200 mm, including all ancillary works.

Peripheral engineering services using Dynatronic remote sensors were also undertaken. This data was then used in fashioning out an appropriate design for the protection. It also enhanced knowledge on protection measures required for the pipelines. As the pipe diameter was significant (up to 1,200 mm), adequate knowledge of the soil strength was required. Trial holes for soil classification, in addition to standard penetration tests, were performed, and the data generated was used during the design. This information was also very useful during the construction to carry out excavation successfully.
