PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The quality of the treated water of the airport waterworks was anything but satisfactory. The colour was brown, and this affected toilet cisterns and washbasins within the airport complex. The airport management approached GKW for assistance. A thorough study of the treatment process was carried out, and it was discovered that detention time allowed for the raw water was very short. This implied that oxidation continued as the water left the treatment works and arrived to the consumer at both the domestic and international terminals of the airport.
To eliminate this discolouration, a distribution/setting tank allowing for four-hour detention time was interposed on the existing treatment facilities. A general rehabilitation of the existing system was carried out. Additionally, two boreholes were drilled to boost the quantity of raw water available for treatment. To further ensure network integrity, an elevated steel reservoir was proposed for FAAN staff quarters. At completion of construction, the tank guaranteed adequate pressure, which had hitherto been fluctuating.
